Which LED video processor should you buy? Choose a device that accepts your actual source format, handles the required image composition and can deliver the finished screen canvas through a compatible LED control system. Input resolution, total output pixels and the number of output ports describe different limits.
Separate processing from LED sending
A standalone video processor can scale or compose a picture and pass it to a separate sending controller. An all-in-one LED controller adds sending functions within the same unit. Before comparing prices, draw the signal path: source → processing → sending → receiving cards → LED modules. Confirm which boxes your chosen model replaces.
A practical shortlist across brands
| Product or family | Selection role | Deciding question |
|---|---|---|
| NovaStar VX600 / VX1000 | All-in-one video processing and LED control. | Which model provides the inputs and screen capacity your layout requires? |
| LINSN X104 | All-in-one option for small fixed LED installations. | Does the exact receiver system and source format fit the installation? |
| Colorlight X-series options | Explore model-specific video-processing and control functions. | Do you need live inputs, USB playback or a particular output arrangement? |
| Huidu HD-A8 | Explore a controller/player workflow when the project needs live and scheduled content. | Which synchronous/asynchronous functions and receiver configuration are required? |
These are starting points for different workflows, not equivalent substitutes. Check the individual product page and manufacturer documentation.
NovaStar VX400 vs VX600 vs VX1000
Choose by screen loading, Ethernet outputs and simultaneous layers. This table covers the standard VX models; Pro versions have different specifications.
| Parameter | VX400 | VX600 | VX1000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maximum loading | 2.6 million pixels | 3.9 million pixels | 6.5 million pixels |
| Gigabit Ethernet outputs | 4 | 6 | 10 |
| Layers | 1 main + 1 PIP | 1 main + 2 PIP | 1 main + 2 PIP |
| Video inputs | 1×3G-SDI; 2×HDMI 1.3; 1×DVI; 1×OPT | 1×3G-SDI; 2×HDMI 1.3; 1×DVI; 1×OPT | 1×3G-SDI; 2×HDMI 1.4; 2×DVI (HDMI 1.4); 1×OPT |
| Separate canvas limits | Maximum width 10,240 pixels; maximum height 8,192 pixels | ||
Source: NovaStar official VX comparison, checked November 5, 2026. Width and height limits are not simultaneously achievable at maximum values. Total loading, per-port allocation, frame rate and bit depth must fit the documented configuration. Optical routing depends on operating mode.
Which VX model fits my project?
VX400 suits a canvas within 2.6 million pixels when four output chains and two layers are sufficient. VX600 adds output capacity and a third layer. VX1000 offers the largest loading and most Ethernet outputs here. Check the receiver system and every source format before ordering.
LINSN Y8 series: four models compared
Start with output loading, then compare inputs and layer requirements. A higher output count does not make every input a 4K/60 input.
| Model | Ethernet outputs | Maximum loading | Layers | Inputs and options |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Y8-308 | 8 | 5.2 million pixels | 3 | 3×HDMI 1.4; 1×DVI; 1×3G-SDI optional |
| Y8-410 | 10 | 6.5 million pixels | Up to 4 | 2×HDMI 2.0; 1×DP 1.2; 4×HDMI 1.3; 1×VGA; 1×DVI; 2×3G-SDI optional |
| Y8-420 | 20 | 13 million pixels | Up to 4 | Same input types and optional SDI count as Y8-410 |
| Y8-628 | 28 | 18.2 million pixels | Up to 4 | Same input types and optional SDI count as Y8-410 |
Basis: LINSN English datasheets, Y8-308 V1.2 and Y8-410/420/628 V1.4, March 2025; available on the linked product pages. Separate dimension limits are 15,360 pixels wide or 7,680 high, subject to total and per-port loading. The Y8-308 overview specifies 8 outputs, while a rear-panel table contains conflicting text; confirm the supplied rear panel when ordering. SDI is an option, not an included-port promise.
How should I shortlist a Y8 controller?
Count receiving-card chains and calculate the full LED canvas first. Then check the exact input resolution, refresh rate and required simultaneous windows. For HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort sources, compare the Y8-410/420/628 input configuration; for a smaller three-layer system, review Y8-308 against its documented input limits. Hardware revisions and optional boards must match the quotation.
Use a requirements sheet before comparing models
- Source format: write the resolution, frame rate and physical interface for every source. A connector marked HDMI does not by itself confirm every HDMI signal format.
- Screen canvas: record total pixel width and height, including separate screens or irregular layouts.
- Image composition: specify the number of simultaneous windows and whether each needs independent scaling, cropping or position control.
- Output mapping: plan cabinet chains and cable routes, including per-port capacity and any redundancy requirement.
- Operation: decide whether staff need front-panel presets, computer configuration, remote content updates or scheduled playback.
- Expansion: describe any planned increase in resolution or source count. Avoid choosing solely from current screen size.
Compare NovaStar VX600 and VX1000 correctly
Both belong to NovaStar’s all-in-one family, combining processing and control. Compare their exact specifications and port layouts against the same project sheet. Do not treat VX600, VX600 Pro and other similarly named variants as interchangeable. The specifications and English manuals available on the individual BSPoo product pages help you check the supplied model.
Common questions
Does a 4K input mean the screen can display 4K pixel-for-pixel?
No. The accepted source format and the supported LED output canvas are separate specifications. Check the screen resolution and output loading as well as the input capability.
Can I reach maximum width and maximum height at the same time?
Do not assume so. A specification may list separate dimension limits while total pixel capacity imposes another limit. Validate the complete canvas and the load on every port.
Should I replace the processor when changing the receiving cards?
Check the entire control path first. Compatibility depends on the exact sending hardware, receiving-card generation, software and cabinet configuration. A processor with a suitable video input may still require a separate compatible sending stage.
How do I avoid ordering the wrong version?
Match the full model and suffix, rear-panel connections, hardware revision when applicable, and required accessories. Send those details with the project sheet before ordering.
