How do you choose an LED controller? Start with the receiving cards already inside the LED cabinets, then check screen resolution, source connections and playback requirements. NovaStar, LINSN, Huidu and Colorlight offer different product families; a matching connector does not establish compatibility between systems.

Controller, receiving card or media player?

A sending controller delivers display data to compatible receiving cards in the cabinets. A receiving card drives the connected LED modules. A media player stores or schedules content. An all-in-one controller combines selected video-processing and sending functions. These roles overlap on some models, so choose by the exact function list rather than the product name alone.

Compare the four brands by your project

Brand Where to start What to verify
NovaStar Explore VX all-in-one controllers for live sources, or a Taurus player for a scheduled-content project. Exact receiving-card family, configuration software and required input format.
LINSN Explore sending controllers and X-series all-in-one processing for a compatible LINSN screen. Receiving-card model, cabinet configuration file and total pixel load.
Huidu Start with asynchronous control cards or media-player products when stored content is required. Whether the model connects directly to modules or uses separate receiving cards; playback and update method.
Colorlight Explore the manufacturer’s sending, video-processing and player families according to the signal path. Exact system generation, receiving hardware and software requirements.

This is a selection framework, not a performance ranking or a claim that every model in a brand has the same features.

Start with these existing products

  • NovaStar VX600: an all-in-one option combining video processing and sending.
  • LINSN X104: an all-in-one processor positioned by the manufacturer for small fixed installations.
  • Huidu HD-C16L: an asynchronous control-card option; confirm the module interface and screen configuration.
  • Browse Colorlight equipment and select the family that matches your existing display.

Five checks before ordering

  1. Identify the cabinet electronics. Photograph the receiving-card label and note the module driver IC and scan configuration.
  2. Calculate the screen canvas. Multiply the finished pixel width by pixel height. A 1920 × 1080 screen contains 2,073,600 pixels. Cabinet size in metres alone is not enough.
  3. Separate live input from stored playback. A laptop feed and an unattended advertising screen may need different devices.
  4. List the whole signal path. Include source, adapters, controller, fiber transport, receiving cards and modules.
  5. Confirm the exact version. Similar names and suffixes can refer to different hardware. Keep a copy of the configuration before replacing a component.

Huidu HD-H6 vs HD-H8

These multimedia players share the same published storage and video-decoding options. The principal difference below is LED output capacity.

Parameter HD-H6 HD-H8
Maximum LED loading 3.93 million pixels 5.24 million pixels
Gigabit LED outputs 6 8
Built-in storage 64GB 64GB
Video decoding alternatives 2×4K, or 6×1080p, or 10×720p, or 20×360p windows
HDMI connections HDMI IN and HDMI LOOP
Network Gigabit LAN; optional 4G/5G connectivity
Separate canvas limits Maximum width 65,536 pixels; maximum height 8,192 pixels

Source: Huidu official H6/H8 comparison and manufacturer Chinese specification, checked November 5, 2026. Decoding options are alternatives, not simultaneous totals. Input decoding is distinct from LED output loading. Maximum width, height and total pixel loading must be checked together. Cellular modules and data service are optional.

Should I choose H6 or H8?

Choose H6 when six output chains and 3.93 million pixels cover the installation. Choose H8 when the cabinet wiring or canvas needs eight outputs and up to 5.24 million pixels. Confirm receiving cards, content schedule and remote-management requirements before purchase.

Common questions

Can I mix a controller from one brand with another brand’s receiving cards?

Do not assume this will work. Request explicit confirmation for the exact sending and receiving models and system configuration. Changing brand can require replacing receiving hardware and configuring the screen again.

Should I buy the controller with the highest pixel capacity?

Only if it also meets your input, mapping and workflow needs. Total pixels, maximum width or height, per-port loading and refresh settings are separate constraints. A larger headline capacity does not resolve an incompatible interface.

What should I send when asking for a replacement?

Provide the old controller and receiving-card models, cabinet count and layout, total screen pixel dimensions, source resolution and photos of the ports. Identify whether you need live display, stored playback or both.
